Gantry cranes are generally preferred crane types in open areas. The point where it differs from bridge cranes is that the forward and backward movement of the portal bridge is carried out not through the walkways above, but through the walkways on the ground. Another difference is that the bridge is located on piers called portal piers. Gantry cranes are divided into two: gantry crane and semi-gantry crane.

Both legs of the gantry crane move on walkways on the ground. It is preferred in open areas where there are no structures on either side of the crane.
